Amazon main image requirements (2026)
September 2026
Amazon main images fail on three numbers more often than on taste: the background must be RGB 255,255,255 (250,250,250 looks white and still fails), the product should fill about 85% of the frame without touching the edges, and the longest side must be at least 1000 px — 1600 px if you want zoom. JPEG or PNG, file under 10 MB.
This page lists the published main-image rules sellers actually hit, then shows how to check one real product photo in the browser before Seller Central. Fernpix is an independent checker — Amazon still makes the final listing decision.
Amazon main-image spec (public seller help + Fernpix US ruleset)
| Rule | Number to hit |
|---|---|
| Minimum longest side | 1000 px to upload |
| Zoom-ready size | 1600 px or larger on the long side |
| File size | ≤ 10 MB |
| Format | JPEG or PNG — not iPhone HEIC |
| Background | RGB 255,255,255 / #FFFFFF on the main image |
| Product fill | About 85% of the frame; do not touch the edges |
| Centering | Product near the center; leftover floor or halo still fails |
| Main-image extras | No text, logos, borders, insets, or multiple views |
The three numbers Amazon actually enforces
Seller Central’s main-image gate is picky about pixel white, fill, and resolution. A photo that “looks fine” on a laptop still rejects when the canvas is off-white, the product is small in frame, or the long side is 900 px. Secondary and lifestyle images can show context; the main slot cannot.
Why the same file still gets rejected
Common misses: 250,250,250 studio sweep; cutout halo; shadow under the product; watermark or packshot text; product touching the edge; HEIC from an iPhone; a 4:3 phone shot that is tall enough but not 1000 px on the long side after crop. Recut to true #FFFFFF and re-check the export — compression can reintroduce a grey fringe.

Amazon vs Shopee / Lazada / TikTok Shop
Amazon wants a taller pixel floor (1000 / 1600) and ~85% fill. Shopee and Lazada want 1:1 squares with a ~2 MB cap. TikTok Shop tiles also crop to 1:1 with a looser 5 MB cap. Do not assume one export passes every marketplace.

Check locally before Seller Central
Drop the rejected main image into Fernpix’s Amazon profile. You will see which rule failed — white, fill, edges, dimensions, format, or file weight — then fix supported issues on this device. Catalog originals are not uploaded to Fernpix for the check.
Before you upload again
- Longest side 1000 px minimum; 1600 px if you need zoom.
- Background reads #FFFFFF, not warm paper or concrete grey.
- Product fills about 85% and does not touch the edges.
- JPEG or PNG only; convert HEIC first.
- File under 10 MB after export, not before.
- No text, logos, or extra products on the main image.
FAQ
What size does Amazon require for a main image?
Longest side at least 1000 px to upload; 1600 px or more for zoom. JPEG or PNG, file under 10 MB.
Does Amazon require a pure white background?
Yes on the main image: RGB 255,255,255 (#FFFFFF). 250,250,250 studio grey, cream paper, a cutout halo, or a floor shadow still fail. Secondary images can use lifestyle scenes.
What is the 85% fill rule?
The product should fill about 85% of the frame and not touch the edges. A tiny product on a huge white canvas is a common reject even when the background is truly white.
Does a pass in Fernpix mean Amazon will approve the listing?
No. Fernpix checks published main-image numbers. Category exceptions, brand approval, and intellectual-property flags are still decided in Seller Central.
